Why
Move? "Quality
of Life." Where else can you have an excellent
meal at a bistro, then go canoeing on a scenic
river? Or attend a concert at Luther College, then
hop on your bike to enjoy either a paved or off-road
trail? Or have an elegant tea party, then visit a
park with a waterfall? It's
this mixture of natural resources and human resources that
has brought Decorah recognition from a number of
sources. Decorah is named in the book "The Best
Small Towns in America." Midwest Living
chose Decorah in its "Great Small Town Getaways"
article. Men's Journal named Decorah as one
of "52 Great American Weekends under $200" for
mountain biking. And Decorah's historic houses led
to the town's recognition as one of the nation's
"Prettiest Painted Places."
Decorah
offers excellence in fine arts with museums, theaters,
orchestras, arts institutions and dance companies. Each
year Decorah hosts the Northeast Iowa Artists Studio Tour
where the area's best artisans open their studios for a
unique, behind-the-scenes look into how their work is
created.
The
Decorah area is known for its outdoor beauty and numerous
recreational activities. The Upper Iowa River and the
Turkey River areas offer extensive biking, hiking,
canoeing, skiing and equestrian activities. The area is
also known for world-class trout fishing and pheasant,
turkey and deer hunting.
